Design for a plate to J. C. Lavater’s, ‘Essays on Physiognomy’, trans. Henry Hunter, London 1789–1798, vol.III.ii., facing p.309. The published engraving accompanies two others. This profile exhibits a character ‘best disposed for the arts’. Lavater states: ‘If I were a prince, (he) should be my designer’.
