The portrait was commissioned at the end of Prof Dacre's presidency of the RCP (2014–2018).

Professor Dame Dacre is a rheumatologist and medical scholar, Director of University College of London Medical School and past medical director of Magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography exam (MRCP), and from May 2018 led a review of the gender pay gap in the National Health System.
