This small sketch is one of numerous oil studies for one of Lavery's major works: 'Their Majesties' Court, Buckingham Palace' (1931). The location of the original is unknown and only two other studies are recorded. This picture is therefore extremely important. It shows the Countess, a legendary beauty in her youth, in her later years.
