This drawing, looking south-east towards Prince Rock and the Cattewater, with Plymstock and Hooe Lake in the distance, is one of the earliest known depictions of Plymouth. It was made by Wenceslaus Hollar, an artist from Bohemia (the present-day Czech Republic) who lived in England. A widely circulated set of prints were made from these drawings and were how Europe learned of Britain’s port cities.
