A man with powdered hair, wearing a jacket adorned with a row of gold buttons showing the three feather insignia of the Prince of Wales, a waistcoat and cravat. The insignia on the buttons led to the sitter being identified as George IV (1762–1830) before he was king, however, commemorative buttons like these were also distributed to the Royal Family’s good friends, leading to the re-identification of the sitter as an acquaintance of the Prince of Wales.
