This was painted during an Artist in Residence project in 1986. The subject matter was inspired by patients of the hospital in the Occupational Therapy Department in Chesterfield, many of whom were amputees from mining accidents. The nine panels that make up the 'Mural' were originally displayed in one of the corridors in the hospital. The work is a tribute to the region, depicting the traditional mining industry and the natural beauty of the Peak District: hence the title (from) 'Pits to Peaks'.
