A number of illustrations were produced for Richard Thomas & Baldwins Ltd (RTB) by the artist Norman Hepple. Among the pictorial subjects undertaken were the strip mill, the coiler, the slab squeezer and the hot metal shop, the continuous pickler, the five stand cold reduction mill and the electric arc furance. These operational units were to be found at various RTB plants in the early 1950s. A number of the original illustrations have survived and are held by the Ebbw Vale Works Archival Trust.

Hepple was a renowned portrait artist and became President of the Royal Society of Portrait Painters (1979–1983). He was also extremely interested in the architecture of machinery and the combination of these two disciplines is reflected in the natural looking relationship of men and machines.
