Philip Connard was a painter of portraits, landscapes and decorative designs. He began working as a house-painter and attended evening classes in art before winning a scholarship to the Royal College of Art. Connard exhibited at the New English Art Club from 1906 and was a founder member of the National Portrait Society in 1911. He was elected an associate of the Royal Academy in 1918 and became a Royal Academician in 1925.
