In the aftermath of the First World War, Mary Watts was commissioned to create a new decorative interior for the Mortuary Chapel of the Cambridge Military Hospital at Aldershot. After the chapel closed in 1996, these gesso low relief panels were removed and donated to Watts Gallery Trust. The narrative of the panels begins with the parable of the fiery furnace (Book of Daniel), moves through to the ‘Song of Three Holy Children’ and ends with the figure of Christ, centralised above the altar.
