In the British Watercolour and Drawing Collection, housed in the Gibberd Gallery and bequeathed to Harlow by Sir Fredrick, there is the design drawing for the ‘Obelisk’ showing its component parts and alongside a scale model in Portland stone, which was made by Christopher Dean.

Inscription description
four plaques, three of which depict the coat of arms of Essex County Council, Harlow District Council and Harlow Development Corporation respectively. The fourth plaque carries the circular inscription: THIS MONUMENT WAS ERECTED BY HARLOW DEVLOPMENT CORPORATION; within the circular inscription: 1947 TO COMMEMORATE THE BUILDING OF THE NEW TOWN 1980
