A broad landscape. In the foreground are several figures. On the left are two ladies walking away from an old woman with a baby on her lap. To the right of them are two soldiers in military uniform; the man on the left wears white breeches, black boots, a black jacket with medals or braid and a hat. He carries a cane. Next to him, is a man in a red jacket and trousers and a tall black hat with a white feather at the front. To the right of the men, walking away from them, are a man, a woman and a small girl in a bonnet. Approaching them from the right is a country man in smock and hat, with a sack over his shoulder and a walking stick. Behind these figures is a wooden fence with a gate; trees grow close by. Down the hill, in the middle ground, are houses and fields.
