'Northam Shoal' is a major public light work and a landmark beacon for an area of urban regeneration. The sculpture uses a modified, decommissioned lighting column to support the main sculpture. The result of research with scientists at Southampton's National Oceanographic Study Centre, the sculpture features near to 1,000 'heat-blued' stainless steel fish, forming a shoal super-organism. It is lit by sequenced fibre-optics the turbulent mass appears to spiral like a vortex.
