Bennett's interest in the natural world produced a fascination for patterns and forms that occurred on a microscopic, human and cosmic scale. A way for Bennett to respond to such diversity was to paint equivalent forms by means of abstraction. He considered this series of works to be 'like imagined gardens or a theatre combining, through allusion, plants, birds, insects, flowers, mushrooms, atomic explosions, DNA, chromosomes, diatoms, jellyfish and constellations'.
