on an attached black plaque in large letters and numerals: NEWBIGGIN / COLLIERY / 1908 1967.; on a smaller attached plaque in small lettering: This pit tub was erected in 1984 to mark the site of / NEWBIGGIN COLLIERY / The Colliery, which was sunk in 1909, employed / 1,100 men at its peak and produced up to 265,000 tonnes yearly / The Colliery closed in 1967 and the area / was reclaimed by Northumberland County Council in 1978
