Cathy Wilkes is known for her poignant explorations of the everyday, memory and the fragile thresholds of human experience. Her multidisciplinary practice – spanning sculpture, painting, and installation – frequently employs overlooked and ephemeral materials, creating works that reflect on intimacy, loss and the impermanence of life. Often drawing on her own experiences, especially from Northern Ireland during the Troubles, Wilkes' works resist straightforward meaning, instead evoking a liminal, transformative space of possibility. 'In My Ashes Will Embrace You', faint forms appear as delicate traces, reminiscent of stains or marks on clothing and linens, suggesting an intimate connection to the body. The work evokes grief, loss and tenderness, offering a quiet space for contemplation.
