There were many Greenwoods associated with the Brontës, and it's uncertain which 'Mrs Greenwood' this is – if it even is a Mrs Greenwood. Not only the identity of the sitter is uncertain, however, but the artist, though sometimes claimed to be the Victorian portraitist Sir George Hayter, is also disputed. It was the gift to the Parsonage Museum of Gilbert Keighley of Steeton Hall, near Keighley, in memory of his father Alex.
