Mr Briggs stands on a table in a disordered room; his fishing line knocks objects from the mantelpiece. Mrs Briggs and their two children survey the disarray with varied expressions. A slightly different version of this scene was published in 'Punch', XIX, 1850, p. 226. There is also a related coloured etching in the Barber Collection.
