A double portrait of Myra Kathleen Lilian Baggett, née White (1909–1993) and her husband James William Baggett (1906–1990). Commissioned as a single portrait of either sitter, Spencer chose instead to paint them together with startling immediacy in their Highgate dining room, with its view of the churchyard and Highgate School. He rejected a patterned dress for Mrs Baggett, as the time taken to paint it would increase the cost of the picture.
