This shows a scene in North Wales. It is an oil sketch, probably made on the spot, but the exact location is unknown. Benjamin Barker went on several sketching tours of North Wales, finding inspiration there in the craggy mountainous landscapes. He produced many similar works to this, not just because he enjoyed painting them, but also because they sold well.
