In 1937 Clare Sheridan travelled to Montana to execute four sculptures of people from the Native American Blackfeet tribe. In order to acquaint herself with the customs of this tribe, as the newspaper 'Christian Science Monitor' reported in August 1937, she spent several weeks living in the Blackfeet village. Sheridan described her experience in her book 'Redskin Interlude' of 1938.
