A slightly curved stone wall, which incorporates a bench seat in the left side and a commemorative plaque with names incised and painted and silhouetted miners' pickaxes to either side on the right half. There is a small paved area in front of it. The other side of the wall forms an entrance to the town with a welcome sign. Following an inrush of water from nearby disused workings, three men were trapped and drowned in the Mosside coal mine. A 19-year-old raised the alarm and was able to escape with four others, wading through water up to their necks.
