The very well-known and prolific painter Samuel John Birch – he adopted the name 'Lamorna' after Lamorna Cove in Cornwall to distinguish himself from another S. J. Birch – was born in Egremont, Wallasey. This painting was bought from the artist's memorial exhibition following his death in 1955.
