The monument is Grecian in style with a base and plinth supporting columns and a canopy. The spandrils are decorated with poppy flowers and leaves, denoting death. It has a York stone foundation, a polished grey granite base and a pedestal of polished Sicilican marble with Greek mouldings and inscription. A Carrara marble bust of Henry Harrap was originally in place of the funerary urn that now sits under the arched canopy.

Harrap was an eminent medical practitioner who was identified with Brighton's renown as a health-restoring resort in the nineteenth century.
