inscription to front of plinth, black painted incised letters: IN THE VAULT BENEATH LIES THE BODY OF / ANNE, THE WIFE OF THOMAS FREWEN, ESQRE OF BRICKWALL. / SHE WAS THE ELEVENTH OF TWELVE CHILDREN OF WILLIAM WILSON CARUS WILSON, ESQRE M.P. / BY HIS WIFE MARGARET, DAUGHTER AND SOLE HEIR OF BENJAMIN SHIPPHARD, OF NATLAND / AND WAS BORN AT HER FATHER'S SEAT, CASTERTON HALL, WESTMORELAND, JULY 19TH 1803. / SHE DIED AT BRICKWALL, AT THE BIRTH OF HER SIXTH CHILD, (A STILLBORN FEMALE INFANT) FEBRUARY 18TH 1844, / LEAVING FIVE YOUNG CHILDREN, MARY, SELINA, JOHN, LATON, AND ELEANOR, / TO DEPLORE THE LOSS OF A TENDER MOTHER. / HER DISPOSITION, NATURALLY MILD AND GENTLE, WAS IMPROVED BY A RELIGIOUS EDUCATION, / AND IT PLEASED GOD IN HIS INFINITE MERCY, TO CALL HER IN EARLY YOUTH TO A SAVING KNOWLEDGE OF HIMSELF. / HER RELIGIOUS PRINCIPLES WERE DEEP-SEATED BUT UNOBTRUSIVE, AND THOUGH SHE FELT STRONGLY, / SHE WAS DIFFIDENT IN HER PROFESSION, LEST THROUGH THE INFIRMITY OF HUMAN NATURE, / RELIGION MIGHT BE DISGRACED BY AN INCONSISTENT WALK. / FOR HER STATION IN LIFE, SHE WAS VERY MODERATE AND SELF-DENYING, / AND EVER READY TO MINISTER TO THE TEMPORAL AND SPIRITUAL WANTS OF HER FELLOW CREATURES. / IN PROSPERITY SHE WAS MEEK AND HUMBLE, PATIENT AND UNCOMPLAINING IN ADVERSITY AND IN SICKNESS, / AND RESIGNED IN THE HOUR OF DEATH: HER LAST WORDS WERE “THY WILL BE DONE!
