"/ THOMAS FREWEN, ESQRE, ERECTS THIS MONUMENT / TO COMMEMORATE HER MANY EXCELLENCIES, AND HIS OWN IRREPARABLE LOSS. / THOU ART GONE TO THE GRAVE, WE NO LONGER BEHOLD THEE, / NOR TREAD THE ROUGH PATHS OF THE WORLD BY THY SIDE; / BUT THE WIDE ARMS OF MERCY ARE SPREAD TO ENFOLD THEE, / AND SINNERS MAY HOPE, SINCE THE SINLESS HAS DIED. / “WHAT SHALL SEPARATE US FROM THE LOVE OF CHRIST? SHALL TRIBULATION, OR PERSECUTION, / OR DISTRESS, OR NAKEDNESS, OR FAMINE, OR PERIL, OR SWORD; NAY, IN ALL THESE THINGS WE / ARE MORE THAN CONQUERORS, THROUGH HIM THAT LOVED US? / “QUICQUID EX ILLA AMAVIMUS, QUICQUID MIRATI SUMUS MANET."; incised letters on banner underneath shield at base of plinth: MUTARE NON EST MEUM.
