Robert Brough was a Scottish painter of portraits who tragically died young. He was a former student of Gray's School of Art and died as a result of injuries sustained from a railway disaster in 1905. The subject of this painting is a priest, a benefactor of Blairs College, who died at Blairs in 1903.
