This lavishly coloured painting depicts two cardinals in an elegantly furnished room. One is playing a cello whilst the other listens. The painting pokes fun at the higher orders of the Catholic Church by portraying them in a domestic setting and thus showing their susceptibility to the everyday trials and tribulations familiar to their flock.
