In 1956, Harlow Art Trust asked Brown to submit ideas for the newly completed Market Square. The committee met to view these at Phillip Hendy’s office at the National Gallery and on the basis of Brown's drawings and maquette, commissioned ‘Figures with a Carcass’ (renamed ‘Meat Porters’) in 1959. The piece was cast in concrete and fibreglass and shown at the 'Sculpture in the Open Air' exhibition at Battersea Park in 1960.
