The sitter is a well-known local historian and author who has lived all her life in Yell and was, for many years, a Trustee of The Old Haa. Her brother, the late Bobby Tulloch, MBE, is known worldwide as 'The' Shetland naturalist.

Richard Wemyss is popular in Shetland for his fishing-related paintings and for his many portraits and drawings of local musicians and dancers.
