Daughter and heiress of Francis Humberston Mackenzie, 7th and last Lord Seaforth, the subject of the Brahan Seer's most famous prophesy. Mary Elizabeth Frederica Mackenzie was born at Tarradale in 1783 and in 1804 married Admiral Sir Samuel Hood, RN, who had been one of Nelson's captains, the famous 'band of brothers'. She was left a widow without family in 1814, succeeded her father in 1815 and afterwards married James Alexander Stewart of Glasserton, a grandson of the 6th Earl of Galloway. She died in 1862 and was buried at Fortrose.
