A stele surmounted by a projecting and undulating top and set on a plinth contains an inlaid bronze relief panel. The bronze has a copper patination and depicts a draped, bare-foot female figure playing a lyre standing on a ledge beneath which is the above inscription. The top of the figure is turned to the left, holding the lyre in her left hand, and lightly plucking the string with her raised right hand. She stands on her left leg, her right bending forward and projecting beyond the bronze frame. The folds of the Greek-style drapery delicately articulate the form beneath while the head veil falls behind the figure and billows toward the left. The detailed treatment of the graceful figure creates strong contrasts of light and dark. The sculptor who designed and created the bronze panel, Alfred Buxton, was the son of the deceased.
