Margaret de Grave (1718–1797) married Roland Touzeau at the French Church in Leicester Fields, London in 1739 and it is likely that the pair of portraits were painted around that time. Although she was born and died in England, her daughter married a Guernseyman and she and Roland are the ancestors of the Touzeau family in Guernsey.
