The fountain takes the form of a woman with flowing hair dispensing water from a disc held in her hands. At its base, the water falls into an elliptical stone basin carved with spiral markings. Together with the vertical stone elements representing her hair, these recall the Celtic settlements on the Malvern Hills. The woman's serenity and the demure expression on her face, with its downcast gaze, are reminiscent of the medieval religious statuary that once graced the nearby Benedictine Abbey. Together with the long flowing hair, they also recall Pre-Raphaelite imagery.

Inscription description

inscriptions (on plaque to left of fountain): Malvhina Sculpture by Rose Garrard 1998 / This sculpture combines three themes proposed by local residents. / Its form reflects ancient Celtic standing stones with spiral / marking, medieval religious statuary and Victorian Pre-Raphaelite / images, suggesting three of the most significant periods in / Malvern's history. The Malvern spring water flows from a / bronze disc where three circles interlink symbolising the / sacred triple of the Celts, the Christian Holy Trinity and the / springs which combine here. The sculpture is named Malvhina / after a Celtic Princess which some historians / romantically connected with the naming of Malvern / itself. / Commissioned by Malvern Hills District Council / Sponsored by West Midlands Arts and Elmley Foundation.
