A wooden figure of a dancer from Burma. One of a pair supporting a pole with suspended gong, originally attached with a screw in a hole in his left shoulder. The two figures hold mirror-image postures, with slight variations in costume, and are male and female. The figure is intricately carved with great detail in the textiles, jewellery, headdress etc. He is standing on a base with scalloped edges. His right foot is slightly raised behind his body, his right arm is close to his body, and the left arm raised above the shoulder, although both arms rotate from the elbow. His costume has elaborate foliate-like panels on the front of the skirt, knees, waist, wrists, elbows, shoulders, and behind the ears. He wears knee-length shorts with an additional pointed element made of folds of fabric which extends from his waist to the base.
