A life-sized statue of Malcolm Arnold seated on a bench and wearing a suit and tie. His hand rests on the trumpet which rests on his lap. Malcolm Arnold was born in Northampton and began playing the trumpet at the age of 12. He won a scholarship to the Royal College of Music and later played as Principal Trumpet with the London Philharmonic Orchestra. By the age of 30 his main vocation was composition and he made his name as one of the most sought-after composers in Britain. This sculpture is part of a series of five statues of historical figures with a strong connection to Northampton, which were commissioned following the popularity of John Clare, installed in 2016.
