The plaque celebrates the world's longest seaplane flight and has a relief of the two planes, Mercury and Maia, that were involved in the record attempt. The piggyback combination took off from the Tay Estuary in 1938 and created a record that still stands today. The current plaque replaced an earlier version which was damaged.
