This is a painting of Sarah Tyson Hallowell (1846–1924), who was an American art curator in the years between the Civil War and the First World War, and an acquaintance of Auguste Rodin. During the First World War she treated the wounded in her home, at a small hospital and visited prison camps behind German lines to ensure Allied prisoners were treated properly.
