Madame Jeanne Françoise Jullie Adélaïde Récamier was a French socialite. In this portrait bust she is shown wearing a Greek turban in which her hair is gathered up and fixed with a comb. The original sculpture, made by the artist in 1805 or 1806, is in the permanent collection of the Musée des Beaux-Arts, Lyon (object no. B 871) and is said to be the artist's most famous work. Several copies of the original were made.
