The view across the Grenzgletcher from the Gornergrat is one of the most memorable in the Swiss Alps. The view stretches from the Lyskamm in the east, past Castor and Pollux to the Breithorn and the Matterhorn in the west.

Ruskin painted this view in 1849, some forty-nine years before the electric railway up the Gornergrat from Zermatt opened in 1898.
