View along the shore at Lyme Regis, seen from a steep grassy bank above the beach. A young woman and child sit together, the mother is looking out to sea and the child is looking towards the viewer. An empty rowing boat and small tent can be seen on the beach below and gentle waves lap the shore. Houses and white stone walls are visible in the centre and background, and in the far distance, green hills and trees line the horizon. Some parts of the house in the foreground are semi-dilapidated, with brick showing through the white exterior, showing the age of some of these properties.
