He has a high forehead, wavy hair and full beard and is wearing a dark jacket combined with light shirt, vest and trousers. His hat is lying upturned in front of him on the ground. The older woman to his left is kneeling towards him with folded hands and looks up at him pleadingly. The young woman on his right is holding his hand and touching his shoulder with a similar expression. Both are wearing crinoline dresses, short mantles and bonnets. A third woman in similar attire and holding a folded umbrella, stands in the background on the left and looks at the others.
