Lord Falconer of Thoroton, Lord Chancellor, 2003–2007, the last person to combine the roles of Speaker, Lord Chancellor and Head of the Judiciary: making this portrait particularly significant and important from an historical perspective. He is shown here in his Office leaning forward on a House of Lords chair. On the surface to his side sits the Lord Chancellors purse, his ceremonial wig and a mirror, in which the modernity of his office reflected.

The artist Michael Taylor is an award-winning artist and a member of the Royal Society of Portrait Painters. He has undertaken, amongst many others, two portrait commissions for the National Portrait Gallery including one of P. D. James, Baroness James of Holland Park.
