A low relief carving of a lion rampant (the Percy Lion) on a recessed panel over the portal of the barbican at Alnwick Castle, with hollow moulding work on the ashlar which encloses it. On the underside there are three badges: a locket between a crowned lion and a leopard or panther; a bird displayed within a cable moulding, between a lion uncrowned and a unicorn collared; and a lion with a crown.
