This sculpture was made as part of 'Pride of Northampton' project in the Summer of 2010, during which 40 sponsored lions were decorated with a different design by artists or schools. The lions were displayed for 10 weeks and then auctioned off for charity. This lion in particular has a conventionally coloured face but its sides display scenes of poppies, plants, branches and fields, as well as maps and verses from the poem 'In Flanders Fields'.
