This painting of Lieutenant John Mitchell Duff was part of a larger memorial dedicated to John and his brother Lieutenant William Duff who were both killed during the First World War. The Duff family, prominent members of the Busby community, headed by William Duff, presented the village with the Duff Memorial Institute, comprising baths, a library, a reading room and a social room.
