A head and shoulders portrait of Colonel Kemmis Buckley in uniform. The artist is a landscape painter who works direct from the subject in oils or tempera. Many of his paintings are the result of travels abroad and are completed on the spot. Now and then, however, he develops these on a larger scale in his studio in Fulham. In this country he spends many happy hours painting in the local allotments and on the banks of the River Thames nearby. He keeps a small canal boat, converted as a floating studio, in Oxfordshire.
