According to the annotation, this was the artist's last pencil sketch at Langham Mill in July 1929; she was feeling unwell at the time and so left for Musbury (her home in Devonshire) the next day. She died in October the same year. She was married to fellow artist Charles Sidney Cheston (see 'Street Scene' and 'Autumn Afternoon, Durham' also in the Royal Watercolour Society's collection). After Cheston's death, her husband wrote a memorial volume entitled 'Evelyn Cheston: Member of the New English Art Club 1908–1929', which was published in 1931.
