According to the biblical story Jesus, on the way from Judea to Galilee, comes to Jacob's well, outside the town of Sychar in Samaria, where he meets a woman. Traditionally, Samarians were not friends with Jews and this particular woman was known to be an adulterer. Jesus shocks her by requesting a drink and says: 'Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again. But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst.' The disciples are returning from the town and are surprised to find him talking to her.
