This painting is one of over a thousand works by Newcastle artist W. H. Charlton that formed part of an early gift to the Hatton collection. The works include paintings, drawings, prints and numerous sketchbooks, recording both North East scenes and the artist’s travels through Britain and Europe, as well as portraits and images of rustic life.
