As an essential piece of equipment for the British forces for many years, the Land Rover has proved its versatility in armed conflict both home and abroad. The lightweight Land Rover could be dropped into any battle arena by air, together with supplies and communications. Frank Wootton’s view of the difficult terrain in a jungle situation illustrates the complexities of delivering Land Rovers by helicopter in tight tree lines and dense vegetation. Frank Wootton studied under Eric Ravilious and is known for a range of artwork, including landscape and equestrian subjects. He is best known, however, as an aviation artist, perhaps the finest of our time. His attention to historical and technical accuracy leaves one with a real sense of the aircraft, their operation and ability to fly.
