Lalla Rookh', a series of oriental tales in verse by Thomas Moore, was first published in 1817. The picture refers to the section called 'The Fire Worshippers' and shows Hinda, daughter of the Emir of Arabia, with her companions in a tower overlooking the Persian Gulf.
